Rain sat next to Daniel in the dining room of the house that the group of strangers had found. They had all found them selfs in a forest, being taken from their lives and appearing in a place that was far away from their everyday lives.
"Daniel, I found something last night," she told him.
"What's that?" he asked.
"It's a door, however it's bricked up," Rain said. "It at the back of the house, and is at the bottom of some steps."
"That seems a little odd," he said, clearly thinking through all the reasons it may be bricked up.
"Well, we should go and take a look at it," Rain suggested.
"Yes, we will. I am just trying to think about why it would be there," he said, standing up.
"Follow me," Rain said as she lead him outside, finding Matt at the front door, who tagged along.
Daniel and Matt took a look at the door behind the wall. However, in the daylight, something was different. Rain stood at the top of the stairs, looking at the door and the area around it. She couldn't place what had changed, yet it stared her in the face.
"What's the matter?" Matt asked as he joined her at the top of the stairs.
"There is something different about this door," Rain told him.
She looked again, looking above. It hit her like a train. "Last night I was able to stand over the door. I walked around the house and was on the veranda looking down into the space behind the door, but now there is a room above it," she said, her voice shaking.
"Are you sure?" Daniel asked.
Rain looked down to him. "Yes, I am. This is too weird."
Matt held her hand for support. "It doesn't make much sense, but I guess we have to believe you."
"I am not lying, that room wasn't there before," she sensed his apprehension to believe her.
Daniel joined Rain and Matt. "I don't think we can prove it either way, so I think that it's best to drop it for now and figure out how to get into that room at a later time, because Matt and Ralf need to set out soon."
Daniel and Matt headed over to the front door of the house. Ralf had been waiting for them to arrive. "About time."
"Sorry," Daniel said. "We had to check something."
"Anything I need to know about?" Ralf asked, he seemed to be angry with them.
"No, not for the moment. Are you okay?" Daniel asked.
"No," Ralf said bluntly. "I was waiting around for ages, and I just want to set out already."
"Okay," Matt said as he picked up some fruit. "Let's set out."
Daniel stopped them. "Hold on a moment. Tie these around trees and bushes you pass. Make sure that you do, or it maybe hard to find this house again," he said, handing over some material he had ripped into strips.
"What is this from?" Matt asked.
"Some old curtains that were in one of the bedrooms. Now, good luck," Daniel said as they both headed out of the gates and into the forest.
After he had watched Matt and Ralf leave the house, Daniel had wandered into room, which was filled with old books. He guessed it would have been a study when the house was last used. The night before he had looked through some of the books. They were not in English, which he felt was strange. As he read through them, sitting next to Debra who was watching the trees sway back and forth outside the window. Daniel picked out a pink book, it had clearly faded over time. He opened the cover, dust appearing from inside. It was a diary, written in English. He read the first page to Debra who had asked what it was.
"Today is a dark day for my family," Daniel read. "My father has decided this house is too far away from the village, so we must move closer. I have to agree that we must move, however it is not for that reason. The solitude is something I hold dear. The reason I want to flee this house is what happens inside the walls. There is a evil force at work here, something I cannot
stand any longer. My mother is dead, my sisters are missing. My father won't listen to me that it was the house. He spent hours looking for my sisters in the forest around the house, however there was no sign. I believe they are still here, but I cannot find a way to contact them. What am I to do? I must leave with my father, otherwise I will be left alone here and I am too afraid to do that. Tomorrow we leave for the village, and then who knows where. I hope we stay in Italy, but I think my father has other plans." Daniel paused. "We are in Italy."
"How did we all get do far away?" Debra asked, not asking for an answer, just saying it to herself.
"I think I will read more of this, and find out some other information."
