Dawn Sundale stood from the sofa as Sal Smith entered the room and waved. Dawn waved back, pleased to see a friendly face.
"Any news Dawn?" Sal asked as she picked up her bag and coat from the second sofa behind her.
"Nothing yet. I'm waiting for someone to call," Dawn told Sal, hoping that indeed someone would call, and soon.
Sal smiled as she looked for her car keys. "Your welcome to stay as long as you need."
Dawn had arrived in Maine a month before where she had met Sal in the police station. Sal had actually cried when she heard Dawn's story and had offered her spare room there and then. Dawn had agreed as her house was near the police station, and it wasn't as if Sal was going to take no for an answer.
Sal finally found the keys behind the sofa and headed for the front door. "I have to get to work. Help yourself to the leftovers in the fridge, I haven't shopped so that's all there is for now."
"That's fine," Dawn replied. "Have a nice day."
Deciding it was better to take a walk than sit around the house all day, Dawn left Sal's place and headed out. As she was closing the door, David Builder, the man who phoned her a month ago to tell her about the sighting and who had been helping her all this time, was heading for the house. He looked up in surprise as he saw Dawn on the porch. "Morning Miss Sundale," he said in his cheery tone that made Dawn feel as ease.
"Hey Dave," she said, David insisting she call him that. "Any news?"
"Nothing in Maine, but I have heard about a sighting in the Big Apple," he told her.
"New York? Isn't that a little weird?" she asked, a little confused.
"Why yes it is. There have been three sightings in this area over the past month, one only yesterday. I got the call from New York this morning. I don't think much of it, however I do think they should follow it up. You never know what might come of it and at any rate, it will give those New Yorkers a chance to do some real work," he joked and chuckled.
Dawn couldn't help but laugh herself. "I worked on the force there for years, before I moved to The Kingdom."
David's face seemed to drop, and his jaw slacked. "I'm sorry, didn't mean nothing by it."
Dawn winked, and he brightened up once more. "Actually, I think your right."
They both laughed for a while, enjoying the company more than the convocation.
"Well then Miss Sundale, hows say you get your pretty little head back to The Kingdom, fancy place isn't it? You should be with your Holly." His accent was southern, yet had a hint of something else Dawn couldn't place. At any rate, he was a funny man who Dawn would miss when she did leave.
"I might do just that Dave. I've been thinking about it."
"We've got your number, so we have. Any trouble up in these parts and we will call you right away."
Dawn knew he would too. They had some tea, both eating some leftovers, and David Builder left Sal's place. Indeed, Dawn would miss him when she left.
Randi Stevens was spun around, pulled close, and kissed by Clark Jefferson. Her head spun as she was twirled, yet it all melted away once her lips touched his. It was as if her soul melted into his when they touched, as if they became one person. Randi loved that feeling, and it sent a tingle through her every time.
A little dizzy, she said. "You know sneaking up on my will get you a time out."
Clark laughed and told her. "I love you more than I can explain."
"I love you that exact same way Mr. Jefferson."
She looked into his eyes, those deep brown pools that were filled with love, love for her, and she knew that she would spend the rest of her life with him. In those eyes, he knew it too, and it created a heat between them that would soon spark if they didn't extinguish it. Randi looked at him, and he at her, and knew what was going to happen. She took his hand, and lead him to the stairs and up to the bedroom.
