Dawn Sundale ran out of her home, her face as white as a sheet. "Mom!" Holly yelled as Dawn ran over to her. Dawn only stood there, not saying anything. Her eyes looked empty, as if she had seen something that had changed her life. "Mom, are you okay?"
Dawn looked at Holly. "No. I shot him," she said.
Holly's jaw dropped. "Oh God." She grabbed her mother, who limply returned the embrace.
"He came at me with a gun, so I kicked him. He dropped it next to me, so I picked it up and when he came at me again, I shot him. The other guy ran off, Holly I think I killed him."
"Mom, it was self defense, you had to save yourself."
Andy White had been on the police force for over twenty years, since he was just twenty two. He loved his job, and each job he and his partner took made him excited. At six in the morning he got message sending him to Tragic Kingdom's rich district, as he called it. He had knocked on the door of a pretty white house, with large windows and lovely rose bushes in front. As he waited, he whistled a tune, that was until he say who opened the door. "Dawn," he said, shocked.
"Hey Andy," she said to him, not in her usual upbeat manner that he remembered her for.
He had talked to her about the situation, and his team had taken the body to the hospital. She had given her statement at her home, as she had to watch her children, which Andy's boss had said okay
to it, being a father himself he knew a sitter on a holiday was like searching for a needle in a hay stack. She had told him what happened, and he had talked to Holly and Poppy to see if it was true. It was decided that she would be able to stay at home, and that there was no need to arrest her for the time being.
"Dawn, we all miss you at the station," Andy said to her, as she handed him a coffee.
"I miss you guy's too. Actually, I was thinking of coming back to work," she said, sitting down and sipping her coffee. She had calmed down a lot by this point, but her hands still shook and her face was still white.
"You should Dawn, you were a great cop," he said, and she knew that when Andy said something, he meant it.
"Well, once this mess is sorted out, I will come down there and speak to the boss," Dawn told him.
"Don't worry Dawn, this was self defense," Andy assured her.
"I just hope so Andy, I don't think I could face prison."
Andy held her hand. "You won't have to Dawn, believe me. I should be going, get this thing over with. I will call by once I know whats going on."
New Year came and went. However, this year no one was in the mood to celebrate. The usual street party was canceled, and most of the residents stayed home, and watched Dick Clark ring in the new year. Time seemed to move fast for everyone. The snow melted, and it was starting to warm up once again. Spring was just around the corner, and with this the residents of the Kingdom hoped that their lives would become better than it had been for the past few months.
Toffee Waterday and Roz Tillville stood outside a building that was now theirs. They had bought an old farmhouse that had been turned into three apartments. Toffee had needed a partner in order to buy this place, and she had found Roz, who was searching for something to do with her time. Roz had jumped at the chance to develop houses. "I can't believe we did it," Toffee said, her voice high and excited.
Roz smiled. "I know, the place is looking great. I saw an advert in the paper this morning, three apartments for rent, call Toffee Waterday and Roz Tillville for details," Roz said, equally excited.
"We should look for another project," Toffee suggested.
"I heard that there are two plots of land for sale near the old Swift place. They are in an amazing place, and we could build two huge mansions on the land, and make a large profit after. I think we would be stupid not to take this chance," Roz told her.
Toffee calmed down a little. "I don't know if I can afford this, I don't have much left from this place," she told Roz.
"Well, I had an idea about that. We start a business, developing homes. We both put our money together, it doesn't matter how much, and then use that to build the homes. We then split the profit. I won't matter if I put in more than you, because the money that we put in will not be ours anymore, it will be the company's. We forget about who put in what, and just enjoy the profits. I hope this makes sense," Roz explained.
Toffee though for a few seconds. "I do. It's just, I will always feel guilty that you put in more money, and I get profit from you, and not off my own input."
"Well, it won't really be my money, because I didn't earn it. It's Chris's money really, so we can say he is putting it into the business, and not me. We are gaining off him."
Toffee smiled. "I guess, if this is what you want to do. I know I would love to start doing this full time, and I will get together as much as I can," she told Roz.
"We should do this. We need a name though, for the company. How about we go out for breakfast and think the whole plan over?" Roz suggested.
"Sounds great," Toffee replied.
Sophie and Noah Snowstep slumped into two chair's at Sophie's restaurant. They had spent the morning jogging together, and had made their way back here to see how things were going. Sophie smiled at Noah. "That was great. I feel amazing this morning," she said.
"Me too. We should jog more often."
Sophie smiled at a builder, and turned back to Noah. "I can't wait for this place to be done. We open tonight, and I am worried the furniture wont get here," she said, looking at her cell phone to see if anyone had left a message.
"It will get here. This place is looking amazing Sophie, you have done a great job," he said.
"I am nervous. I've not done anything like this before. I don't know if I can run a business."
"If I can do it, you can. I used to kick a ball around for a living, and I am running dad's company well, I think," he told her.
She smiled. "That's true, you are doing a great job. What's not true is that your dumb, you are really smart Noah, you get it from your father. I am just a washed up model, or actress, I don't remember what I was doing when I fell pregnant," she joked. "I just hope this place works, we put a lot of money into this place."
Noah stood up and kissed her. "It will work," he said, as he walked to the door. "I have to get going, see you tonight," he said and left.
